Why MathsGrip

Designed for steady repetition, not more noise.

MathsGrip is for children who need calm, focused practice — and for the parents and teachers around them. No leaderboards, no characters, no last-minute cramming.

Daily, not last-minute

Short daily practice instead of cramming.

Five-minute sessions, three or four times a week. The product does the scheduling — children just show up.

60-min cram nights→ 5-min sessions
Calm before fast

Calm speed building, not instant timer pressure.

Accuracy first. The timer arrives gradually — calm, gentle, build, then full MTC speed.

How it works

Three steps. No setup.

A short check, daily practice that adapts, and an honest mock when your child is ready.

  1. Step 01

    Start with a quick check

Twelve calm questions show where to focus — no score, just a starting point.

  2. Step 02

    Practise in short daily sessions

Weak facts come back at the right time. Mistakes trigger a short repair, not a red cross.

  3. Step 03

    Try a real-style mock

When the basics feel solid, an MTC-style mock builds familiarity with the timed format.

Research-informed

Four principles, drawn from published research.

We don't promise scientifically guaranteed results. But every choice in MathsGrip can be traced back to evidence about how children actually build fact fluency.

Recall, not just recognition

Children type the answer instead of picking from a list. Fluency comes from retrieval, not from spotting the right option.

Spaced short practice

Facts return on a spacing ladder. Frequent enough to stick, spread out enough to last.

Repair after mistakes

A wrong answer triggers a short, structured fix — and the same fact comes back two or three questions later.

Speed built gradually

Accuracy first. The timer scales from calm, to gentle, to build, to MTC speed — only when the child is ready.

Inside the product

Four screens that do the work.

Daily practice, focus on what's wobbling, a fluency map of every fact from 2×2 to 12×12, and a separate mock that mirrors the official format.

Daily Practice

Daily practice adapts to what needs another rep — slow facts, recent errors, overdue items.

Focus Facts

A short, friendly set of facts that need another rep. No "weak" or "failed" labels — just sharpening.

Fluency Map

Every fact from 2×2 to 12×12 — fluent, learning, slow, due, or in repair. Tap one for detail.

MTC Mock

Stays separate from everyday practice. No hints, no repair — just the timed format, end to end.

FAQ

Quick answers.

What is the MTC?
The Multiplication Tables Check is a statutory onscreen check for Year 4 pupils in England. It has 25 timed questions covering tables up to 12×12, with around 6 seconds per question, preceded by 3 practice questions.
Does my child need an account?
No. MathsGrip is local-first by design. Children just open the page and start practising. Progress is stored on the device, in the browser.
Is this only for times tables?
For now, yes — MathsGrip focuses on multiplication facts up to 12×12 and the MTC format. We'd rather do one thing carefully than many things shallowly.
How is progress stored?
In the browser's IndexedDB, on the device you're using. There's no cloud sync. You can export a JSON backup from Settings and import it on another device, or clear everything with one tap.
How often should a child practise?
Three or four short sessions a week works well for most children. Spaced practice beats long one-off sessions for fact fluency.
Is MathsGrip designed for the real MTC format?
The MTC Mock screen mirrors the official format — 3 practice questions, then 25 timed questions at MTC speed. Daily practice is calmer, with the timer building gradually so accuracy comes first.
